![]() ![]() Windows Embedded Posready 2009 Product Key List Install Windows 8So, it was very easy for me to use my MSDN media, reinstall Windows 8.0, and it simply detected and used my Windows 8 embedded BIOS key.
From there, I would make any adjustments needed, run sysprep, and grab an image. This allowed me to use that image on any of the Dells that I purchased with Windows 8 and all was great. Then, along comes the free upgrade to Windows 8.1. I took one of my Dells, and laid down a clean windows 8.0 image. Then I ran the Store free upgrade to Windows 8.1. All was well. I then cleaned up the temporary files and whatnot and tried to run Sysprep only to be greeted with an error that said, Im sorry, I cannot validate your OS installation. Did some research and found that you arent supposed to run Sysprep on a machine that you ran an upgrade. ![]() Grabbed the 8.1 ISO from MSDN, put it onto an installable USB key, started the install and it now prompts me for a key. It wont detect or use the embedded 8.0 key that is on the box. So, I cannot actually clean install Windows 8.1 with the embedded OEM key, even though I can freely upgrade to 8.1. Im not going to take my new Dell computers, lay down the clean 8.0 image and then upgrade each of them manually via the store to Windows 8.1. This takes way too long. Im not going to use my MSDN keys to install onto these machines, because I dont want them to activate these keys. These machines have legit OEM Windows 8 keys and 8.1 is a free upgrade to 8.0, so it seems like these legit keys would work. Windows Embedded Posready 2009 Product Key List License On TheI paid dell to have a valid OEM license on the computer, that is what I want to use. Does anybody know of a way to get 8.1 Pro to install clean, on a machine with an embedded 8.0 Pro key. This post is in no way shape or form trying to perform any type of piracy. Intel X25-M 80GB Gen 2 SSD Western Digital 1TB Caviar Black, 32MB cache. WD1001FALS. Yes, I did say retail because I am not sure howif an OEM key would work under these circumstances. However, your suggestion may be applicable to pparks1s situation; however, I do not know of anyone that has found their legitimate OEM key and then succesffully added it at the end (as you suggested). Now, if that would work, one would have to be sure they did, in fact, find the correct OEM key, and secondly, they would have to try it as you described but somehow, I got a bad feeling about whether that method would actually work on an OEM configuration because I havent heard any reports that it has so far. Have you So, in summary, Im good to go on 8.1 because I know the retail key works but I have my doubts about the OEM clean install until proven otherwise; however, thanks a bunch for your concern over my poorly written response. Afraid to try it though as my only computer and use it as OTA TV DVR besides normal stuff. Too many negatives here about using 8.1 ISO to upgrade OEM 8. Call me a wuss. PS: Crapped my pants the other day when I did a refresh and had to recover stuff. Asus RT-AC56R dual-band WRT router (Merlin firmware). Intel 7260.HMWWB.R dual-band ac wireless adapter. I have been asking for a while if the OEMs were offering an update to 8.1 through them, but it seems that option is not available. So, the activation process, after you install Windows 8.1, needs the 8.0 License key which in embedded in the bios on these systems. I suppose I was wondering, when you select Activate Windows what options are you given On my,non-OEM system, I am asked to input a key or possibly call.
